Presentation – Geology Lecture Series 05/25/2022
As part of the European Geopark Week, the KLAR! The Steirische Eisenwurzen Nature and Geopark took advantage of the opportunity to introduce itself and bring the topic of climate change adaptation closer to the audience.
Afterwards, Prof. Michael Wagreich from the University of Vienna gave a lecture on “The Anthropocene – Human global change is more than climate change” and Lukas Plan from the Natural History Museum, Vienna on the“Cave formation through sulfuric acid – The Kraus cave in GeoDorf Gams”. Afterwards there was a small quiz, whether the spectators really paid attention, this was finally decided by Hr. Gerhard Stangl won.
Forest hike with VS Landl – Forest & Climate change adaptation
On October 20th, 2022 in beautiful autumnal weather, the VS Landl together with the KLAR! Nature and Geopark Steirische Eisenwurzen and the forest owner Hannes Cornides in his climate-friendly reforested forest.
The protective function of the forest and how the photosynthesis of the trees works was conveyed to the pupils and educators in a playful way. Afterwards, Hannes Cornides explained to the children which animals live in the forest and why the trees have to be protected from deer browsing. As a special treat, the students were allowed to plant climate-friendly trees and attach protective devices at the end. The students also took a few spruce trees with them.
